Experience
In February 2016, I retired from a 36-year engineering career. During that time, I always looked for opportunities to teach. I strongly believe that with the right instruction techniques and a dedicated teacher, anyone with a desire to learn can be taught any subject. Several years ago I participated in a tutoring program by my employer for the Lynn, MA public schools. Toward the end of my career, I was responsible for developing and teaching a series of courses, both technical and non-technical, for a workforce of several hundred engineers. I taught myself Spanish at about the age of 40, and have continued to an advanced intermediate level. I interact regularly with native Spanish speakers, who often comment on my good pronunciation. I am now teaching myself German, and also know some French, Russian, and Portuguese. In learning these languages, and in helping native Spanish speakers improve their English, I understand what it takes to learn a new language.

Hobbies
I am married, with two adult children. My interests are wide and have varied over the years. At different times I played hockey, tennis, and golf. I enjoy hiking and camping. I played saxophone in the band in high school and college, and was the editor of my high school newspaper. I enjoy reading about science, history, geography, and current events. After retirement, I started a genealogy business which allows me to use my interest in history, geography, and language.
